qtips123 Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Have a 98 Ghia X. Get ERROR 5 on head unit and it looks like CD is stuck in the multichanger If the changer is U/S any ideas on cost effetcive replacement which keeps as much of the original stuff like speakers and more importantly the remote control on the steering wheel. I'm not sure what's behind the original unit, perhaps there is a separate amp, if so, can I get another head unit and plug it straight in Not bothered about replacing autochanger, single CD input at the front is more convinient. Thanks for yor help Jim Quote

Guest MATT Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 well, on my old galaxy, i replaced the radio, with a CD/Radio JVC one. my old galaxy didn't have the controls on the steering wheel, like yours has. but i think you can buy "adaptors" that will allow it to work. cheapest option my well be too buy a second hand CD changer. if you do get a new head unit, don't bother buying "a super powerful one" as the speakers wont take it. Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 if the CD changer is the rear-mounted unit, just take it out and unplug the multi-plug connector. Wait 2 minutes then re-fit. If it still doesn't work, there is a small hole into which you can place the end of a bent paper-clip to release the CDs stuck inside - similar to computer CD drives.HTH Quote
